Week 8 – Environment Models

Environment Models

As per the previous meeting discussion, I intended to model some more environmental assets.

Quick Design Drafts

I made very quick and rough drawings so that myself and the team could be on the same mindset about the models I will make.

In the drawings above, there is a beehive, broken tree stump and a broken wooden plank.

Broken Wooden Planks

Model

I used Boolean to create the broken ends, then refined the cut wood shape by manually moving the vertices.

Substance Painter

In Substance Painter I added a wood material to the model, as well as other details.

Version 1.

I changed the colour of the material, not touching the other painted details to create another version of the texture to use.

Version 2.
Version 3.

Tree Stump

Secondary research reference for the tree stump model:

reference for how to start modelling the tree.

I created the broken top of the tree y using Boolean multiple times and then fixing the mesh afterwards.

Texture version 4.

As you can see in the image above, the placement of Uv cuts in Maya created these separation in the applied material in Substance Painter. I believe this is because I did not touch the checkered view in the Uv editor. It doesn’t concern me too much right now as it will not be very visible in the game, but for the future this be more refined.
